I just love ReStyle products and I get so excited when the shipment arrives from Poland and I get to put the products, in the website, to share with you all. They make the little part of my heart that is gothic and a little bit Steampunk, go pitty pat!
For those of you who are not aware of Steampunk here is a little explanation of its origins. It is fascinating!
"Steampunk, before it became the full-blown sub-culture it is today, started out as a science-fiction sub-genre in the 1970s. Its fundamental inspirations go all the way back to 19th century Victorian writers, such as Jules Verne (author of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea) and H.G. Wells (author of The Time Machine)."
"Steampunk fashion is a subgenre of the steampunk movement in science fiction. It is a mixture of the Victorian era's romantic view of science in literature and elements from the Industrial Revolution in Europe during the 1800s."
So why is the Octopus so prevalent in Steampunk?
"In the 19th century, the octopus was a symbol of the railroad and the Industrial Revolution, which are central to the steampunk culture. Railroad companies, with their sprawling networks similar to tentacles, were seen as monsters attempting to take over the farmers' lands."
ReStyle's Steampunk Octopus necklace had to be in JATOE. It is made of gold toned metal and the chain is 69 centimetres long. It does not have a clasp and just easily slips over the head.
The Octopus is 4.5 centimetres high and 5 centimetres wide.
For anyone who is into Steampunk, this is a must!
